Volunteers wanted for homeless count
Monday, January 21, 2008 by David Eby
The artist formerly known as the GVRD, now Metro Vancouver, is seeking volunteers to count homeless people in Vancouver and the lower mainland. The Count will take place on March 10th and 11th, 2008.
The Count is used to monitor the increase or decrease in homelessness in Vancouver and has become a regular indicator for social service agencies and government of the direction the homeless population is headed.
For the actual count, volunteers receive training and hit the streets in teams of two overnight to count and interview homeless people for demographic information. If you're interested in volunteering, more information is available here. You can also call Judy Roberts, Metro Vancouver Homelessness Secretariat 604-451-6065 or Robyn Newton, SPARC BC Project Manager 604-718-7757 to sign up.
