Anti-Olympic carnival at Britania
Thursday, May 22, 2008 by David Eby
The Britania Community centre is electing a new board, and community members opposed to the centre being used for Olympic purposes are gathering on Wednesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. at Gym D of the Centre for a carnival and mass attendance at the election to rock the vote.
The description of the event goes like this:
Hey folks...
Let’s make this a real community coming together….an opposition to 2010 mini-carnival. That means come with your instruments, costumes, art, spoken words, bikes, drums, your strength, sense of humour and deep passion for ensuring that these corporate games are NOT in our community!!!!
This ‘event’ also includes the Britannia Board Annual General Meeting, and it is the night that Britannia community centre members (that’s you folks) get to vote in new board members.
We need to show that there are many of us diverse folk that do not think what is happening around us because of 2010 is okay or acceptable or, quite frankly, allowed in this place we call our home. Standing together because of our love of each other and disgust at what is happening to so many of us in the East Side and resolve that lower income folk , alternatively living folk, have a right to live in the east side.

How in the hell does the Olympics have anything to do with homelessness or any other issue? These have been problems well before anyone even thought of bringing the Olympics here.
What are we supposed to do, cancel the Games?
I'll be at your rally in support of the Games and the BILLIONS of dollars they will bring here that we could, oh, I don't know, use on all of these problems.
It's an investment, grow up and understand that.
It's Britannia, not Brittania!

YES! PLEASE! Is this still an option? Let's do it! ASAP before all the dumb rich jocks book their airplane trips.
