VPD get armoured personnel carrier

The City of Vancouver is shelling out $95,000 of the $345,000 cost of a new armoured personnel carrier for the Vancouver Police Department. The rest of the cost is coming from the Vancouver Police Foundation.

Rumours were widespread that the cops wanted one of these for the Olympics, but I thought they were just conspiracy theories. Apparently not.

The plan appears to be for this vehicle to be used for, according to the cops, 20 calls per year. That works out to approximately $1,725 per call amortized over the next 10 years.

Of course, nobody has ever heard of a cop getting shot in a conventional police car in Vancouver, or even a cop getting shot period in Vancouver in recent memory, but I suppose you can't be too careful, and lord knows there's no other community use for that $345,000.
